SUP Expedition with Humpback Whales in Mozambique

Have you ever wanted to stand up paddle board with humpback whales and SUP surf in paradise? If so, then Inhambane in Mozambique is the perfect destination for you.

Imagine sitting at the point on your board with our marine biologist, Clare, watching these gentle giants gracefully swimming nearby. As they pass by you are counting how many humpback whales are in each group and gathering photographic IDs of their tails as they dive. Not only will you have the opportunity to embark on this once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you will also be helping a local marine conservation charity, Love The Oceans, by collecting data on the humpback whales. It’s a remarkable experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

SUP Surfing

If you’re already a fan of SUP surfing, then you’ll also love the waves in Inhambane. Our SUP Surf Coach, Beau Nixon, will take you to some amazing surfing spots and help you improve through one-to-one coaching and video analysis. The sand beaches stretch out ahead of you, and the water is warm and inviting; surfing here is an excellent way to explore the area and get an adrenaline rush at the same time. The waves in Inhambane are perfect for SUP surfing, and the stunning views will make your experience even more memorable. You might even see a humpback whale in the line up.

Exploration

Close by to our base is a beautiful reef accessible by snorkelling. The Indian Ocean is a diverse seascape with seasonal visitors such as manta rays, whale sharks and humpback whales.

When you’re not on the water, you can take some time to explore the vibrant local culture and land based wildlife. We will visit the local town of Tofo during your stay and taste local cuisine as all meals are included in this trip, with delicious evening meals cooked by a Mozambican chef.

By combining a chance to explore nature with a surf coaching opportunity, we are hoping to entice couples with an interest in surfing and conservation to take part in our 10-day trip. You will need a sense of adventure and a love of the ocean.

Helping the Environment

Staying near the beach is undoubtedly an incredible privilege. The sound of the waves, the salty sea air, and the endless stretches of sand are just a few of the perks. However, with this privilege comes responsibility. As you step onto the beach, you will inevitably encounter plastic waste.

One way we help is by picking up plastic waste during our beach visits and on our SUPs. This simple gesture can make a huge difference in minimizing the harmful effects that plastic pollution has on marine life. Furthermore, we can learn about new ways to process marine plastic waste such as creating eco bricks. We will discuss and try plenty of innovative ways to redirect plastic from becoming ocean waste.
